Software I like using:

Video playback:

  • Screen Monkey
  • VLC
  • Media Player Classic

If you are looking for video content creation I would recomend you speak to Motion Craft (link on the left) I haven't checked the current version of VLC but it used to be portable, if it's not then I'll find a portable video player. MPC is quick and has some great addons. As for screen monkey go have a look at my blog but basically if you want a cheap media server it's probably the piece of software for you.

Audio:

  • Multiplay
  • Foobar 2000
  • Ableton Live
  • Sound Exchange

Foobar 2000 is the portable one from this catagory very good multiformat playback and its file management side isn't too bad either. Multiplay was developed by a blue room regular as a simple way of controlling audio cues for corporate and theatre events. Ableton Live would be my first choice for producing music (not that I've done much of that for about 10 years), I've never really understood the fasination with DJing from it but as a remixing tool its mighty. Sound exchange is another freebie this time for batch processing audio... it's rather good at what it does.

Others:

  • MagicQ for lighting (but I'm really NOT a lampy)
  • VirtualDJ
  • Qlab (Show control although I don't have a mac anymore)
  • MS Office (Ok I wouldn't say I like it but I can use it)
  • GIMP

More information on any of these can be found by using the links directory at the top (I was going to make the quick links module on the left swap contents per page but I haven't figured that one out yet.)
